Primary/Jr./Int. Program

At Sevenoaks Academy we employ traditional and formal teaching methods, while drawing on the most up-to-date aspects of modern education in terms of methodology and curriculum. The students follow the Ontario Curriculum, but this is extended, enriched, and modified.

The Primary (Grades 1-3), Junior (Grades 4-6), and Intermediate Programs (Grade 7/8) are taught in small class sizes of up to sixteen. This provides our staff the opportunity to form excellent working relationships with the students, and enables them to monitor the students’ individual progress very closely. The class sizes at Sevenoaks are small, even compared with other independent schools, and this ensures that your child receives appropriate attention and instruction.

In the Primary Program the students concentrate on studying:
  1. Math

  2. English (Spelling, Phonics, Grammar, Reading Comprehension, Novel Study, and Creative Writing)

  3. Science

  4. French

  5. Music (taught by a specialist)

  6. Art (taught by a specialist)

  7. STEAM (taught by a specialist)

  8. Social Studies

  9. Health Education (Mindfulness is integrated as part of this program)

  10. Physical Education (Movement activities, Ski Club (from Grade 3), Cross-Country, Badminton, Basketball, Track and Field, Soccer, Volleyball, Ball Hockey, Circuits, and Yoga)

All Grades

There are four reporting periods, with follow up parent-teacher interviews. This takes place in November (mid-terms), January (end of term 1), April (mid-terms), and June (end of year exams). Students are encouraged to review material on a regular basis and will be given a study list as and when it is required.

We offer extra-curricular activities during the year including ski club, and several other sporting activities. We compete in the Small Schools Athletic Federation offering us a chance to compete in several events throughout the year in the Greater Toronto Area. There are over 70 members to date.
