Kindergarten
The Purpose Of The Sevenoaks Kindergarten Program Is To:
Provide a safe and caring educational environment that promotes the physical, social, emotional and cognitive development of all children.
Establish a strong foundation in education by providing young children with an integrated day of learning.
Support children so they can develop self-regulation, well-being, and a sense of security, emotional and social competence, curiosity and confidence in learning and respect for the diversity of their peers.
Help children make a smoother transition to grade 1.
Children enrolled in the Kindergarten program at Sevenoaks Academy are provided with the opportunity to discover the world around them through experimentation, exploration, problem solving, and communication. Kindergarten students are able to progress at their own rate of development and are delivered an emergent learning program based on the Ontario Curriculum that is tailored to their individual needs. The children’s progress is continuously monitored so that their program can be modified, and the learning expectations adjusted in keeping with the child’s particular requirements. The typical kindergarten day consists of a combination of desk work, group activities, and learning centers. Various learning centers provide them with the chance to practice and apply their skills, ascertain new concepts, increase their confidence, and build healthy relationships. Learning centers are carefully selected activities and equipment designed to meet specific learning goals.
The students are exposed to lessons in language, reading, writing, math, science, social studies, music, drama, art, physical education, health, personal and social development, mindfulness, and French.
