Music at Sevenoaks Academy

Our growing program offers a variety of musical experiences for students from prekindergarten to grade 8.

 

Kindergarten Music Program:

Students explore music through movement, language and song with opportunities to play a variety of pitched and non-pitched percussion instruments.

 

Primary Music Program:

Students engage in a variety of exercises including song, movement and language geared at creating a well-balanced program with a strong curriculum focus. Students also begin performing their first notes on the recorder and pitched percussion (xylophone). Fundamentals such as beat, rhythm and note reading are established, reinforced and strengthened throughout the school year.

 

Junior Music Program:

Students are introduced to music of different cultures and styles. Students are given opportunities to perform on a variety of instruments including drums, vocals, xylophone and recorder. To generate excitement and enthusiasm, students learn their recorder through the Recorder Karate Program. Students receive belts for different levels of achievement; white belt being beginner and black belt being experienced. It is a great tool in helping to create excellent practice and performance skills.

 

Intermediate Music Program:

At the intermediate level students are learning to compose, perform arrangements with multiple sections, and have achieved a high degree of music literacy. Students are introduced to music from different cultures and styles. Students are given opportunities to perform on a variety of instruments including drums, vocals, xylophone and recorder.

 

Enrichment Band Program:

Music expectations for the year are that students:

* Understand the value in, and appreciate many different types of music

* Have strong music literacy skills, and become independent learners and practisers!

*  Become more confident performers

* Meet personal goals set in conjunction with the teacher by the end of the academic year
